Verification information

Verification is outsourced to an agent called MIE (Managed Intergrity Evaluation). Requests for verification of qualifications issued by Umalusi are done through MIE. The requestor contacts MIE and submits the copy of certificate. MIE sends the request to Umalusi, and Umalusi confirms electronically and gives MIE feedback. MIE informs the requestor of the outcome.

More details about the present qualification:

Subjects: Candidate must offer 7 and pass 6 subjects. Achieve more than 50% in 4 subjects and the remaining subjects at minimum 40%.

Grading system: access to Higher Certificate, Diploma & Bachelor's degree.

Awarding period: since 2008.

This qualification grants access to Higher Certificate, Diploma & Bachelor's degree. 

Pre-2008, a Senior Certificate was issued as the main qualification.

The Senior Certificate continued to be offered to part-time learners along side the National Senior Certificate.

The National Certificate (Vocational) is at the same level with the NSC, offered in technical vocational colleges and issued by Umalusi.

In South Africa there is a national Higher Education applications system: the Central Application Service / Central Application Office.
