Comments/Additional Information

  • Secondary adult education is organized in a modular way. A certificate or “certificaat” is obtained after all part-certificates or “deelcertificaten” that make up a qualification are obtained.
  • A diploma of secondary education is awarded when a certificate is obtained for a qualification that is considered to be suitable to lead to a diploma and when the student can also prove sufficient general training (mathematics, languages, …) either through previous qualifications or by completing additional general training or "aanvullende algemene vorming (AAV)".
  • It is possible to obtain the “diploma van secundair onderwijs” in adult education since the school year 2000-2001. Initially, this was only possible for a very limited number of qualifications, but the amount of qualifications that are considered to be suitable to lead to a diploma has expanded over the years.
