Folkhögskola or Folk High School is an alternative form of adult education Sweden. County councils or regions operate some of the schools and others are run by non-governmental organizations. The Folk high schools provide general education for students who have not completed their secondary education.

To access to higher education or higher vocational education in Sweden the holder of the qualification also has to have the  "Intyg för behörighet till högskolestudier och yrkeshögskolestudier" (Certificate Eligibility for Higher Education and Higher Vocational Education). This certificate is issued if if certain requirements are met.

Högskola/Higher education

The general studies must include at least the following upper secondary school subjects: Svenska/Swedish 1, 2 and 3 alternatively Swedish as a second language 1, 2 and 3, Engelska/English 5 and 6, Matematik/Mathematics 1a, b or c, Historia/History 1a1, Naturkunskap/Science studies 1a1, Religionskunskap/Religion 1, Samhällskunskap/Social studies 1a1.

Yrkeshögskola/Higher vocational education

The general studies must include at least the following upper secondary school subjects: Svenska/Swedish 1 alternatively Swedish as a second language 1, Engelska/English 5, Matematik/Mathematics 1a, b or c, Historia/History 1a1, Naturkunskap/Science studies 1a1, Religionskunskap/Religion 1, Samhällskunskap/Social studies 1a1

Students do not receive grades in each course. Studieomdöme/Study assessment, is an overall assessment. It is awarded on the student’s request.
